How often does attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) co-occur with bipolar disorder?

In recent years it’s been determined that ADHD does not always end with childhood and adolescence, but that many adults continue to exhibit symptoms. In childhood, ADHD is the most common cooccurring psychiatric disorder with bipolar disorder (60 percent or more of pre-pubertal children with bipolar disorder have ADHD, as well as greater than 30 percent of adolescents with bipolar disorder). In adults, it’s estimated that roughly 10 percent of people with bipolar disorder will have co-occurring ADHD.
